Her art reflects the principles of “Permaculture”, a philosophy of land use which advocates working with nature, producing no waste and using renewable resources. Her current body of work celebrates the beauty of wind turbines and promotes the positive benefits of green energy. Wind farms, however extensively they spread over hillsides, have a far lower building footprint than conventional power stations. Grass grows animals graze, wildlife co-exists among the turbine towers. The philosophy guides her choice of ground – giving new life into well loved household linens and garments. Her intention is to surreptitiously persuade people to treat the earth gently.
Biography
Born in the South Wales valleys, Marianne attended Cardiff College of Art Foundation course in 1973 where they taught through the Bauhaus principle of form, colour and experimentation. From there she gained a BA (Hons) in Art and Design at Leicester Polytechnic (1977). She specialised in Textiles and exhibited in the Bristol region during 1980’s. Her artistic career became interrupted with the advent of children, academic life and earning a living, but she continued painting. Retiring to Jedburgh she decided to resume her artistic intention gaining a certificate in Botanical Illustration from RBGE (2021) and is now painting Scottish landscapes.
