Influenced by Gaugin, Munch and Bonnard, I have explored landscape (including figures) using photography as a starting point, then photocopying the printed image multiple times. The resulting interference of the image generates an energy which I interpret in paint, using multiple media and varied techniques (a process of experimentation, risk and learning). In particular, the energy comes from an enhancement of the image - a process I call Enhanceference. My rendering of what I experience leads me to aim for what I call Abstractality - working with the offering of convoked reality and abstraction within the image.
Biography
Art, and the idea of being an artist, has always been under the surface of my activity, influencing me in many different ways. I did a first degree in English but then trained as a doctor (a child psychiatrist) which I still practice part-time. Based in the countryside close to Edinburgh, as well as being a full-time student at Leith School of Art (Painting and Printmaking) I am a playwright and will be staging my play ChildMinder in 2023.
