These paintings show scenes from my daily life, which I have used as a vehicle to learn about painting.
Paralysed by choice, I found it helpful to limit myself to the confines of my flat, and to the restrictions of a square board. This has allowed me to paint more freely, focusing on the formal elements of each scene rather than the subject matter.
Exploring my familiar surroundings in this way has exposed connections and patterns, and has changed the way that I engage with the space.
Biography
I studied History of Art as part of my undergraduate degree in Durham, which is my home town. After graduating in 2019 I moved to Edinburgh and undertook a masters in Modern and Contemporary Art at ECA. I have always enjoyed making my own work, and wanted to devote more time to developing my technical skills. Studying on the three day painting course has been challenging and exciting.
