Having recently lost my mother, the final relative of that generation, I was drawn to examine some heirloom pieces from my mother’s side of the family. This included a patchwork quilt made by my great aunt, my mother’s toy kettle, my aunt’s sugar bowl and my great grandmother’s trinket box. The quilt in particular pays tribute to the resourceful creative woman in my heritage, beautifully crafted and made from recycled shirts and cloth. Creating reductive relief prints has been slow and methodical. The pieces grew incrementally, much like the patchworking process.
Biography
Educated in Canada, Ireland and Scotland, Heather has lived in Edinburgh since 1990. She has worked as a researcher in mechanical engineering and a public engagement specialist in academia and is now exploring her creative potential in drawing, painting, glass and ceramics. Heather was a student on the landscape and drawing courses at Leith School of Art this year.
