Edinburgh contains many unique landscapes which offer the artist opportunities to explore and create work.
In this week-long course, students will explore the possibilities of working from observation in a landscape and how to work in a series to develop a range of possible outcomes in the studio.
Beginning the week with an illustrated talk, the group will then go out on location to produce a day of lively sketchbook drawings and research notes. On the second day, we will work with trace monotype, altering composition and preparing grounds. The second half of the week will be spent painting, initially focusing on limited-palette and mixed-media studies, before concentrating on full-colour paintings and more resolved work. We will consider how to work in a series over time and explore colour theory in painting.
