These paintings are inspired by outside spaces close to where I live in the Southside of Glasgow.
I was introduced to Anna Bjerger’s work during the One Day Painting course and fell in love with the way she handles paint, the movement and immediacy of the brushmarks make her paintings so fascinating and magical. I love Richard Diebenkorn’s use of colour, light and contrast, and delving back a bit further, the luscious brushwork of Mary Cassatt and Edouard Manet. These painters apply paint in a tangible, visceral way that I find utterly compelling.
