Drawing inspiration from Scottish Contemporary artist Andrew Cranston’s painting entitled ‘ the hour is very late or very early - 4 in the morning. The hour of the wolf…’ these paintings are of the view from my window at 4 am - a familiar time for me to be awake. The outside world feels slightly surreal and ominous at this time but there is a comfort in the proximity of the city and the relentlessness of the seasons. Insomnia seems to be a lesson in patience in waiting for the time to pass and in the acceptance of being alone. I have used collage, acrylic and oil paint to create structure, layers, distortion and connection through line and shape.I hope to bring to mind an emotion or feeling that the viewer can connect with.
