My paintings attempt to capture the sensory experience of being in the landscape. They are all based on sketches of locations on the Hebridean Island of Islay. At the beginning of a painting there are endless possibilities: in medium, colour, form, tone and composition. Capturing a wave, a cloud, the light, the reflection of the sky on the sea or wet sand in marks on paper requires patience. Conveying the feel of wind, the sound of the sea, the songs of skylarks, the rancour of choughs, the warmth of sunshine requires alchemy.
Biography
Originally from Paisley, Christina currently spends most of her time between the Scottish Borders and Islay. She has studied and worked as an Immunologist, English teacher and Civil servant. Undertaking the year -long Leith School of Art Landscape Course represents a long held ambition to
