During the Contemporary Art Practice course, Lorna has enjoyed experimenting with a wide range of different techniques, research and projects. The processes learned will feed into Lorna’s existing art practice, in particular the printing of found objects and the use of fabric and natural dyes.
Motivated by a lifetime of sensitive and allergy reactive skin, Au Naturel has been created by infusing cotton and hessian with the colours of natural dyes whilst avoiding the toxic chemicals used in mass-produced artificial fabric dyes. Extracted from plants, flowers, vegetables and fruit and through a process of chopping, boiling, peeling, soaking and steaming the fabric has been steeped and tie-dyed to create beautiful patterns and affects.
