Working from local landscapes, this Summer School will explore painting and printmaking as tools of abstraction.
We will begin the week out on location, gathering source material from the local environment. Back in the studios, students will learn how to transpose their observational research drawings into simple acrylic paintings. From Wednesday onwards, we will translate our ideas into print while learning foundational printmaking skills.
Students will explore how the processes of painting and printmaking lend themselves to abstraction. We will consider how painting and printmaking can inform one another and where the ‘meeting points’ of the two processes can be found.
By the end of the week, you will have completed a range of preliminary drawings and paintings, some prints, and resolved paintings.
