During this inspiring, explorative and playful week, students will be introduced to a range of drawing activities, guiding them towards a personal project that could become a basis for or part of a portfolio for application to art college.
Richard Serra has described drawing as a verb – there is no one way to make a drawing, there is only drawing – an invitation to investigate the world.
Making work in response to a variety of subjects, including a draped model, students will look at ways of finding inspiration and thinking creatively. We will use sketchbooks as a tool to explore how artists approach researching and developing their work, and there will also be the opportunity to experiment with both two and three-dimensional processes. Then, depending on students’ own particular interests, these responses will be further developed through drawing, painting, collage, and 2 or 3D design.
This is an ideal course for anyone interested in embarking on studying art and design. Students will experience a range of activities based on the Leith School of Art Foundation Course and first year at art college. Past students’ portfolios will be explored, with guidance given on making a successful application.
