Develop work made directly from the landscape into mixed media pieces that express a sense of place.

The week will begin looking at some examples of contemporary landscape artists to expand our idea of what a landscape can be – a visual diary, memory of place or capturing sensory experiences such as colour, light and movement.  Students will be shown different drawing techniques that can be used when working outdoors, both traditional and more expressive or experimental approaches.

Back in the studio, we will work from our studies as well as other gathered source materials such as photographs and materials collected from the landscape. We will focus on composition, colour, texture and mark, developing our work using a range of layered, mixed-media techniques including drawing, painting, print and collage.

Towards the end of the week, students will resolve their ideas and experiments into a finished piece or series of works.
