A day of self-portraiture, drawing with charcoal and painting with inks.
The morning session will be spent introducing the formal drawing skills required to effectively portray the human head, gain a likeness and sense of self. Working in charcoal, we will look at line, tone and volume.
You will be given the option to bring in accessories or props that will enhance your self-portrait, and in the afternoon, each student will be guided in setting up their own backdrop. Informed by our initial studies, we will spend the rest of the day working on expressive, self-portraits exploring the painterly effects of coloured inks.
