An exploration of paper, fabric, stitch and collage to create unique pattern designs.

On this summer school students will experiment with paper and fabric learning how to combine different materials to create dynamic patterns and textile design ideas.

You will take inspiration from the work of artists such as Henri Matisse, Orla Kiely, Angie Lewin, Lucienne Day, Marian Mahler, Jacqueline Groag and Terence Conran. During the week you will become familiar with the practicalities of combining materials to create low-relief, 3D textile designs.

This course might be of particular interest to students creating a portfolio for application to a Foundation year, Textile Design HND or degree programme. It would also be suited to those interested in expanding their crafting skills and techniques.

Students will aim to finish this course with at least one textile design and a range of tests/experiments that could be developed further at home.
