The beautiful Water of Leith, with its lush undergrowth, wildlife, hidden dells and networks of paths is the inspiration for this Summer School.
We will begin the week sketching along the waterway, taking notes and learning how to work effectively outdoors. As part of the course you will create some simple, hand-made sketchbooks, which we will fill with drawings exploring colour, light, sound and composition.
While immersed in this natural world, students will have the opportunity to reflect on their surroundings, finding a connection to place through their drawing and noticing the rich variety of plant and animal life.
Back in the studio, taking inspiration from artists including Kittie Jones, Eva Struble and Joan Eardly, we will develop our drawings further making resolved works, using a combination of painting, collage and printmaking.
