A creative week of mixed media and oil painting working from ‘loud’ and ‘quiet’ still lives.
Students will start the week working from a vibrant, colourful set-up. A number of mixed media techniques will be introduced allowing you to develop a selection of expressive drawings and paintings. Throughout these exercises, we will work loosely, learning how to experiment with composition, colour and mark making.
Each student will then create their own simple still life using objects, thinking about how the ordinary studio environment can also become part of your set-up. You will then work on a painting or series using a limited palette of colours that you have selected. The aim will be to create a ‘quiet’, atmospheric piece of work which elevates the ‘everyday’ still life into something extraordinary.
This course will suit students with some basic experience wanting to widen their approach to drawing and painting. You will be encouraged to accept mistakes as part of the working process, learning how to think creatively and find satisfying results.
