Explore watercolour painting and how water-based materials can be used in flexible and creative ways to create intriguing contemporary images.
Students will be shown various ways of working with watercolour and inks. There will be an emphasis on experimenting with materials, exploring their possibilities and trying out unconventional painting tools. How to work with resists and Gum Arabic will be demonstrated, and we will focus on colour and texture, bringing expressive marks, light, shade and tone into our work.
During the course you will gain confidence combining and handling a range of water-based materials, develop a set of experimental reference cards, and complete a series of small studies in which a personal response to watercolour is developed.
