Illustration today offers an exciting range of creative possibilities including children’s books, illustration for magazines, newspapers, graphic novels and illustration for design.
The course is ideal for students who want to explore the potential of illustration as a way of telling stories, creating worlds and applying their visual imagination. Those who are new to illustration are welcome.
Illustrators work to a brief, respond to a text, and use different illustrative studio and mixed media techniques to convey information, atmosphere and character. Drawing, experimentation and analysis of meaning are the basic tools of an illustrator and the starting point for creative work on the course.
Each term is structured around a series of exercises designed to facilitate ideas and to build confidence. Students’ work will be supported by reference to contextual sources and leading examples of Illustration practice.
