A harmonious colour palette can express a particular mood or feeling of a place.
Students on this two-day workshop will develop their knowledge of colour theory and how it can be applied to a painting. We’ll examine artists who have used varied approaches to colour in the landscape - the impressionists, post impressionists and fauvists, to Scottish colourists, the St Ives School, and contemporary artists – from the vibrant to the soft and muted.
You will work from your own source images, learning how to pick out observed colours and manipulate them for expressive impact. You will build upon your colour mixing skills, choosing the colours on your palette for desired impact. The workshop will begin with a quick charcoal study from your chosen image, followed by a series of small colour studies which will be used to introduce greater stylistic freedom to a final bold, expressive oil painting.
