A full day working from a model, using the versatility of charcoal to create a series of expressive and atmospheric tonal portraits.
We will explore the qualities of charcoal and the principles of portraiture, inspired by artists such as Frank Auerbach, Alberto Giacometti and Audrey Grant. To start the day, we’ll warm up with some quick drawings, paying attention to light and the proportions of the head and face.
The rest of the day will be focussed on a pair of portraits, completed simultaneously of the same model from two different viewpoints, in order to maintain energy and looseness in the drawings.
