Our series of introductory courses give an in-depth and exploratory introduction to the fundamentals of drawing, painting and printmaking.
Students joining us in the first term for ‘Introduction to Drawing’ will start with the very basic elements of drawing: line, tone and volume. We will draw from observation, undertake short exercises and longer day-long projects with a selection of wet and dry media. The course will cover the fundamental techniques and language of drawing, before exploring further elements such as composition, space and colour theory.
Through a combination of traditional analytical and experimental approaches to image making, students will leave the course equipped with a tool box of skills, having increased their confidence and developed their own creative approach. The course culminates in a personal project that allows students to put their new skills into practice and explore a topic that interests them. The course includes a lecture series and a drawing trip.
Suitable both for beginners and more experienced students who want the opportunity to spend a full day exploring the discipline of drawing in a supportive studio environment.
