Jane has taught at the School since 2003 and in 2015 was appointed leader of the year-long Drawing Course. She has been a community education tutor for Edinburgh City Council since 2002.
Jane originally studied painting, etching and engraving at City and Guilds of London Art School before moving to Scotland. Places are the subjects of Jane’s work, but her themes are the contrasts between busy and empty areas and flat and textured surfaces. Contrasts are also found in the tension between organic and man-made structures, and in the representation of urban and rural spaces emptied of people. Recent work depicting shrines and churches represents her fascination with the way these religious structures, small and large, individual and communal, punctuate our environment.
Jane finds her subjects travelling in Scotland and abroad, particularly to Greece where her family originates from. She exhibits her work regularly in Greece and in the UK.
